30 Years of Music

Since 1993

It all began when two aspiring songwriters crossed the patio at Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis, Maryland during the summer of 1993. Meg Murray was performing one of her original songs when Steve Lowe introduced himself as a fellow songwriter and the acoustic trio August West was born, named by percussionist Kevin Clark from his favorite Dead song “Wharf Rat.”

August West would ebb and flow over the next 30 years, writing and producing two full length recordings, “Bishop Street” in 1996 and “Jones Station Sessions” in 2005, earning 3 Songwriter Association of Washington SAW Awards for their songs “In a Western Night”, “Bishop Street”, and Steve Lowe penned “Face Into the Wind.”

Playing live at The Irish Times in D.C., The Admirals Cup, Leadbetters and the Rusty Skupper in Baltimore, as well as The Bowery in NYC, Meg & Steve were fortunate to have performed with their friend the late Eva Cassidy at Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis and Andy’s in Chestertown, Md.

In 2023, Meg and Steve are writing new material for their next release to celebrate their 30 Year Anniversary, as their music continues to resonate
in the Annapolis music scene, Baltimore, the DMV and beyond.
